How do American people celebrate Christmas?

Before the holidays, Sarah (our language assistant) told us how American people celebrate Christmas.

In the USA, the “Christmas period” starts with Black Friday. Black Friday takes place the day after Thanksgiving. During that period, people buy a lot of things because it is less expensive.

Sarah also talked about the change of colors. Autumn colours are orange, brown, and gold. Winter and Christmas colours are white, red and green.

People buy and decorate a Christmas tree with baubles (UK) or ornaments (US). They sing Christmas carols, cook Christmas cookies and watch classics. Sarah’s favourite classic is “Muppet’s Christmas Carol”.

In every American store, you can listen to Mariah Carey’s song: “All I want for Christmas”.

American people prepare delicious drinks. To make an eggnog, you need cream, eggs, vanilla, cinnamon, rum and sugar.

On Christmas Eve, American families spend some time together. They have a nice time and on Christmas day, children unwrap their presents.
